Description

The course familiarizes doctoral students with the structural and content-related approaches to doctoral dissertations through practical examples. Students critically analyze previously completed dissertations as part of a written assignment. Based on this assignment, they will discuss with their supervisor which dissertation format (article-based, essay-based, or monograph) they intend to follow.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the doctoral student will be able to


- understand how a dissertation is structured according to academic writing standards

- assess the significance and role of different parts of the dissertation in relation to the whole,

- recognize different forms of dissertations and compare them, taking into account their specific characteristics and requirements

- define and justify which format is most suitable for their own doctoral research

It is recommended that students take this course during their first year of doctoral studies.
