Description

The key technological systems (food systems, energy systems, built environments and mobility, digitalization) and their relations to sustainability problems and solutions. Future trends and scenarios of these systems and their interactions. Relevant system features regarding possibilities and challenges for sustainability transitions (e.g. lock-ins, path dependencies, possible alternative system configurations).

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student:

  • Is able to describe the key features of selected technological systems in both their benefits to humans and in their negative sustainability impacts.
  • Is able to find up-to-date information on the development and future scenarios of selected systems.
  • Is able to envision possible sustainability transitions in selected systems and consider their feasibility and potential side-effects both in technical and in societal dimensions.

Method 1

Description:
Lectures 7x2h, possibility to attend on the spot, watch remotely or watch the recording. In addition to the lectures, there will be group assignments, the timing and method of which will be decided by the groups themselves, and written assignments to be completed independently.
Evaluation criteria:
Quality of independent written assignments and independent reflections on group assignments.
