Applications are open once a year in the spring. The right to study can be granted on the basis of the reasons presented in the application, the need for the separate study unit applied for, and academic success.

Description

In advanced Music and Science studies, students delve into specialized areas of music research with a strong emphasis on empirical methods. These studies enhance research skills and support the development of a specialized research approach for the final Master’s thesis. Those interested in applied research can explore computational music research or music therapy research methods and the role of art in well-being. The curriculum also includes on-the-job learning and portfolio work to strengthen practical skills for the working world. Additionally, students have the option to pursue an extended internship, either domestically or internationally. Advanced studies encompass musicology-related courses as well as various optional subjects. 

Learning outcomes

Upon completing advanced studies in Music and Science, students will be able to:

  • Articulate the primary goals, foundational principles, and empirical perspectives of music research.

  • Recognize the interdisciplinary nature of music research.

  • Proficiently analyze and assess research data within specialized areas of music studies.

  • Effectively apply the subject area’s empirical research methods.

  • Independently plan and execute research projects using musicological and/or music therapy research methods.

  • Acquire and critically evaluate the most current scientific research findings in the field.

  • Serve as experts in and contributors to the music and cultural sectors or related welfare areas in professional life, adept at creatively resolving complex issues that may arise.

  • Actively cultivate their own professional expertise.
