Description

The first course of the module, titled ”Issues in Music Therapy Research”, addresses specific research questions and typical research topics in the field of music therapy. The starting point involves key types and target groups of music therapy research that are central to our Department, reflecting and international perspective as well. The second course (Assessment and Evaluation in Music Therapy) in the module e deals with assessment and observation practices and methods in clinical music therapy, also touching upon music therapy research. Additionally, the course delves into the various needs and methodological solutions for assessment and observation from the perspectives of different client groups. The third course of the module (Music Psychotherapy) addresses music therapy in relation to various mental health challenges and disorders. This is a field of traditional psychotherapeutic approaches including music psychotherapy as well. The primary teaching language for all courses in this module is English.

Learning outcomes

After completing the module, the student

- Understands the main trends and research questions in music therapy

- Grasps the fundamental principles of evaluating clinical work in music therapy and understands its significance

- Can describe the theoretical and methodological foundations of music psychotherapy within the context of its key target groups

Description of prerequisites

For students not familiar with music therapy, it is recommended to take courses MUTA2001 and MUTY2003 as background studies for this module.
