Description

Doctoral graduates in cognitive science are research professionals who have the understanding and ability to conduct high-level research on the cognitive underpinnings of human interaction with technology. The acquired knowledge and abilities are not dependent on specific technologies, as the interface between humans and technologies is ubiquitous. Doctoral research can focus on basic or applied research (or both) that is relevant for the analysis and development of human interaction with technology.

Learning outcomes

A doctoral graduate in Cognitive Science:

  • masters research methods of cognitive science to study the cognitive foundations of human interaction with technology
  • is able to independently generate new research knowledge in a manner recognized by the relevant scientific disciplines (e.g., human-computer interaction, human factors and ergonomics, cognitive science)
  • is familiar with the key theoretical concepts relevant to cognitive-scientific understanding of human interaction with technology
  • is able to critically analyse foundational assumptions in research related to human interaction with technology
  • is able to conduct research following the ethical principles in research involving human participants
