You will learn about corporate responsibility, business ethics and develop competencies for building and maintaining responsibility at the workplace.

Description

Corporate responsibility, business ethics and ethical issues in management and leadership from academic discipline and practice viewpoints. The differences and interrelationships between the concepts and phenomena of CSR, business ethics, organizational ethics and ethical management. Introduction to ethical theories and moral theories in the work context. Identification of ethical problems in management and work life. Enhancing ethical dialogue in working life. Business ethics and ethical leadership as tools for building sustainable working life and responsibility. The impact of globalization on business and management ethics.

This course will discuss the following UN Sustainable Development Goals: 5 Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, 8 Humane work and Economic Growth, 9 Sustainable industry, innovation and infrastructure, 12 Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, 13 Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, 16 Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, 17 Global partnership for sustainable development. 

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • understand the concept of corporate social responsibility;

  • know the concepts of business ethics and ethical management;

  • understand the role of ethical leadership in promoting responsibility in organizations;

  • identify and differentiate ethical theories, analyze their principles and apply them to management and organizational practices;

  • reflect on their own role from the perspective of business ethics and the promotion of a sustainable working life;

  • argue and discuss the topics of corporate responsibility and business ethics.

Description of prerequisites

Recommended prerequisites: YTTP1110 Johtamisen ja johtajuuden perusteet / YTTP2110 Introduction to Management and Leadership, or equivalent studies.
