Description

The study module helps students understand how crises develop and how organizations attempt to predict, manage and mitigate the effects of crises, such as on corporate reputation. Students will learn the main elements of an effective crisis communication plan and will examine main communication strategies that may be applied in various crisis situations.

This course will take as a point of departure several important global issues challenging organizational activities and address them through the lenses of crisis communication management. Several of organizational issues are related to stakeholder expectations towards UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as Goals 3 Good health and well-being, 5 Gender Equality, 8 Decent work and economic growth, 10 Reduced inequalities, 12 Sustainable consumption and production, 13 Climate action and 16 Peace and Justice.

Learning outcomes

After completing this study module, the student:

  • has knowledge of the main crisis communication theories and is able to apply them critically

  • is able to identify and address critical problems proactively

  • has trained in coping with uncertainty and risks

  • has trained in the management of stakeholder relations in critical situations

  • is able to plan responses and communicate effectively across different crisis contexts and situations

  • has improved their ability to work in multiprofessional groups

  • has developed problem-solving skills

  • is able to produce communication material in English

Additional information

This course requires 80% attendance to the lectures and 100% participation to the two crisis simulation seminars.
