Description

This course is designed to support the learning of essential skills for doctoral candidates, focusing on effective communication in presenting academic work. Students will develop proficiency in articulating and defending their scientific choices, improving their ability to engage in robust academic debates. Through practical exercises and interactive sessions including class presentations, students will gain experience in presenting own work and evaluating doctoral-level scientific work, offering constructive yet collegial feedback to peers. The course also explores the scientific review process, teaching participants how to navigate and respond to reviewers' comments effectively. By the end, students will enhance their communication skills and gain awareness of peer review dynamics and constructive criticism in academia.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student:

- has gained communication skills in presenting own academic work;

- has gained experience in arguing and defending own scientific choices;

- has learned to evaluate other doctoral level scientific work and provide critical yet collegial feedback to peers;

- has gained an understanding of the scientific review process and can address reviewers’ comments.

Additional information

Completion of this course: Two class presentations of own scientific work, two opponent tasks to other students’ presentations, and one written review of a scientific journal paper with class presentation

This course is recommended to be completed during the second year of doctoral studies.
