Course description

The course offers opportunities to develop French language skills in areas such as structures, vocabulary, and written and oral expression through a variety of exercises. The course also provides a deeper insight into French-speaking communities.


The main content of the course

The theme is narrating about the self and everyday environment.

As for structures, the course will focus on the past tense of verbs (passé composé, imperfect tense, past perfect tense) and on exact referring to something (direct and indirect object pronouns, infinitive and relative pronouns, etc.). 

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student is expected to


  • understand the main points of straightforward factual texts in French;
  • understand the main points of normal-paced speech in French when the topic is familiar;
  • Be able to deduce meanings from the structure and vocabulary of the French language based on prior knowledge;
  • be able to communicate and express opinions in French with more confidence; 
  • understand their strengths as a French learner;
  • have a basic knowledge of French-speaking communities and can reflect on cultural diversity and social values and norms.

The course is optional for all university students. It is part of the Programme de langues, cultures et sociétés françaises.

Description of prerequisites

French 1 and French 2 or the basics of French completed elsewhere.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
Participation in the course and completion of the assignments. Some of the assignments will be assessed.
Evaluation criteria:
Written language skills (mainly vocabulary and structures) are assessed by an exam at the end of the course and a written assignment during the course with a grade of 1-5. Oral language competence is assessed during the course. More detailed assessment criteria are given for each assessed assignment.
