XHOX1003 Dutch 3 (4 cr)

Course description

This interactive course focuses on using language for communication by training all five basic language skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing, and cultural awareness during in class discussions and in class individual and group assignments.

Main content

• Themes: living, work, appearances and personalities
• Everyday useful phrases and expressions
• Reading narrative texts
• Writing short essays
• Grammar: the past tense, sentence structure and verbs with fixed prepositions

On the completion of the course, the student is expected to

• be able to participate in everyday conversations in Dutch
• understand Dutch written and spoken texts concerning subjects that are somewhat familiar to them
• be able express themselves in Dutch when dealing with topics that are important for them
• to utilize their multilingual language repertoire to further develop their language skills
• be aware of various customs and cultures within the Netherlands and Belgium.

Language of instruction: Dutch, English and Finnish. 

Both Finnish and exchange students are welcome. Finnish languages skills are not needed.

This course is for students who successfully finished Hollanti 2 or who have taken a similar course outside Jyväskylä university. When in doubt about your level, contact the teacher.
