Course description
This course provides a comprehensive examination of the intertwined histories, political landscapes, and societal structures of Latin America and Spain. Through a series of lectures and a multimodal approach, students will explore the diverse cultures, historical and political events that have shaped these regions. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the complexities and nuances inherent in the history and contemporary dynamics of Latin America and Spain.

Classes divided into five parts: Spain, Mexico, Caribbean, Andes, and Southern Cone. Each part corresponds to a cultural region.

Learning outcomes

On the completion of the course, the student is expected to

  • identify and analyze key historical and political events that have influenced the development of Latin America and Spain, showcasing an understanding of their interconnected histories

  • be able to critically examine the contemporary history and social complexity of Spain and Latin America

  • identify the links between different Latin American cultures through analysis and reflection

  • be able to communicate appropriately in Spanish about Latin American and Spanish history, politics and society
