Course description:

The course focuses on developing students’ spoken interaction skills in English to help them participate effectively in group communication situations in multicultural academic contexts. The course heavily emphasizes self-directed and peer learning, as well as different conversational strategies for developing the students’ spoken interaction skills. Students will complete tasks that build on their self-reflection, goal setting, vocabulary and presentation skills. Students will also be required to take part in team-based project work, the results of which will be presented at the end of the course.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student is expected to

  • have gained confidence and fluency in their English spoken interaction skills,
  • recognize their own strengths and identify development goals to further their skills as a communicator,
  • have improved their English spoken interaction skills to take an active role in multicultural group discussions in academic contexts.
