Description

Course description

This course focuses on developing academic literacies required for Master’s degree studies. The topics include effective reading strategies (such as skimming and scanning), the conventions of research reporting, searching and evaluating information and sources, and explaining concepts and terminology. In addition, interactive communication, practiced through individual, pair- and group work, are emphasized. Students practice discussing and reporting research information in one's own words orally and in written form in English.

On completion of the course, the student is expected to


  • have acquired academic literacy skills to apply in their research process
  • have developed appropriate reading strategies for accessing and critically analyzing field-specific academic texts

  • know how to discuss, summarize, and synthesize research information in their own words orally and in written form
