Course description
In this course, you will practice the academic writing skills you need to succeed in your studies. The course uses a variety of working methods. You will be expected to work actively, both independently and in groups. The course is intended for Master's level students who have not completed multilingual communication and language studies.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student is expected to:
- be familiar with the role of multilingual competence in their academic studies
- understand academic ethical standards of information management needed in processing academic texts
- have appropriate reading strategies for accessing and critically evaluating academic texts
- demonstrate an understanding of the conventions, language, and the principles of academic texts
- demonstrate skills in summarizing and discussing research both orally and in writing in their own words
Additional information
This course is recommended for students who are studying in Finnish-medium Master’s programs, who have not completed multilingual communication and language studies, and who wish to brush up their academic English skills at the start of their Master’s studies.

Evaluation criteria:
Compulsory and active participation. Successful completion of core assignments. Final grading is based on the applicable grading scale for the course.
