Course description

This course provides opportunities to develop oral and written academic English skills in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Through individual and group work, the course raises awareness of academic conventions and multicultural considerations. Typical tasks promote skills in academic reading, teamwork, academic language use, and presenting information in a coherent manner both orally and in written form.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course, students are expected to

  • identify and comprehend different text types and summarise their main ideas,

  • communicate and interact in multicultural and multilingual teams, taking into account the needs of the group,

  • present information orally, following academic conventions, using appropriate language register and structure,

  • produce texts conforming to academic structural norms and ethical principles,

  • utilise individual and peer feedback to enhance their language and communication skills.
