WISP6010 Introduction to carbon footprint (1 cr)
Tweet text
Description
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the carbon footprint, especially from an organisational perspective. Firstly, it introduces greenhouse gas emissions and their sources and impacts on the planet. It will be explained which activities generate emissions and how they are classified into three scope categories. Then, the concept of carbon footprint and its applications in organisations will be explored in more depth. Different methods and tools for calculating the carbon footprint will be explored, the use of a carbon footprint calculator will be tested and ways to reduce the carbon footprint of an organisation will be discussed.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
is familiar with the concept of carbon footprint and understands the phenomena underpinning it,
can explain what an organisation's carbon footprint consists of, how to classify emission sources into scopes and how emissions can be reduced,
knows the main methods of carbon footprint calculation and masters the basics of the calculation,
can describe the benefits of a carbon footprint calculation for an organisation and also identify the uncertainties and challenges associated with the calculation.
