Zooplankton identification and ecology

Description

Lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises to introduce the main types of freshwater zooplankton and their identification.


Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student should be able to…..

  • identify the major zooplankton groups in freshwaters and the common species in Finnish freshwaters

  • know the life cycles of the major zooplankton groups in freshwaters

  • recognize the role of zooplankton in aquatic foodwebs

  • know the factors controlling the distribution and abundance of zooplankton in different watersheds and the structural and behavioral responses of the zooplankton to different abiotic and biotic factors 

Additional information

Maximum of 16 students. Main subject and stage of the studies are used as selection criteria.
