Basic information of the Finnish ECEC system; Orientation to the values, goals and pedagogical practices of the Finnish ECEC; Orientation to the Finnish ECEC curricula; Pedagogical observation, Pedagogical planning, individual pedagogical plan; The meaning of play, learning environment; 10 days practical orientation in a Finnish ECEC centre 

Learning outcomes

After the course the student:

  • Gets understanding of the Finnish ECEC in theory and in practice

  • Understands the main principles of the Finnish ECEC and pre-primary curricula

  • Understands the meaning of teamwork and educational collaboration

  • Understands the principles of child-centred pedagogy and the meaning of play

  • Understands the importance of learning environment of ECEC concerning indoor and outdoor activities

  • Develops the following pedagogical skills: observation, planning, teaching, reflection 

Additional information

  • This course is especially for those students whose major subject is early childhood education. 7 students max.

  • The timetable will be negotiated with the participants of the course at the beginning of the course.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
Active participation in the seminars. Participating in the 10-day practice period in an ECEC centre (60 hours). The final assignment of the course (portfolio).
Evaluation criteria:
Assessment is based on assignments of the course including a portfolio.
