Description

The course explores the theoretical foundations of small group and team interaction, looking into phenomena such as leadership, diversity or technology-mediated communication. You will be introduced to interaction analysis methods and you will learn how to analyse group interaction. At the same time, you will practice responsible and goal-oriented group work. 

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student will

  • understand the characteristics, key concepts and theoretical foundations of small group communication
  • understand the role of group communication and leadership in communities and organisations 
  • understand the characteristics of technology-mediated communication in groups and teams 
  • be familiar with methods for analysing small group interaction and will be able to analyse small group interaction 
  • know how to work responsibly as a group member and how to assess one’s own and others’ work as well as the group work outcomes.

Evaluation criteria:
Aktiivinen osallistuminen luentoihin ja ohjaustapaamisiin, ryhmätyöskentely sekä analyysitehtävän ja arviointitehtävän suorittaminen suhteessa osaamistavoitteisiin. Hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää läsnäoloa (80 %). Arvosanakohtaiset arviointikriteerit esitellään kurssilla.

Evaluation criteria:
Active participation in the lectures and group work, as well as completion of the required analysis task and evaluation task in line with stated learning outcomes. An 80% attendance requirement is applied. Grade-specific assessment criteria will be introduced in the course.
