Laddering-haastattelutekniikka ja analyysi

Description

This course introduces the Laddering interview technique, an advanced qualitative approach to understanding complex system user behaviors and insights. Bridging theory with practical application, the course equips students with the skills to conduct in-depth interviews and thematic analyses, essential for unraveling intricate data narratives. The course comprises interactive sessions, a practical laddering clinic for hands-on experience, and a coding and analysis workshop. Combining theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, it prepares students to effectively collect and interpret qualitative data, invaluable for understanding value co-creation in information systems and digital services research and beyond.

Goals of the Course:

· Provide an understanding of the Laddering interview technique's theoretical principles and its opportunities for data collection.

· Equip students with the practical skills for conducting Laddering interviews, including data collection and interview management.

· Facilitate the application of the Laddering interview technique in a real-world project, integrating course learnings with hands-on data collection.

· Develop students' abilities to analyze data from Laddering interviews, focusing on thematic analysis of the laddering chains.

Deliverables:

Detailed instructions regarding each deliverable can be found on the Moodle course site.

· Practice interview assignment;

· Project interview assignment;

· Coding workshop deliverable; and

· Thematic analysis workshop deliverable.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

· The course will be assessed Pass/Fail according to active participation in all scheduled sessions of the course and successful completion and submission of all practice assignments to a satisfactory standard.

· Course Completion Options:

o For 2 ECTS Credits: Students must participate in the first and second sessions and successfully submit the assigned practical laddering interview assignments.

o For 3 ECTS Credits: Students must participate in all four sessions and successfully submit the practical laddering interview assignments and the coding and analysis assignments.

Note 1: Please note that active participation in the synchronized events is required.

Note 2: Please note that to complete the course, you need to have successfully and on time completed all deliverables of the course.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:

· Have a thorough understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the Laddering interview method and its capabilities in data collection.

· Be able to identify the advantages and challenges of using qualitative interview methods in solving research problems.

· Gain skills to effectively use the Laddering interview technique as a method for data collection in scientific research.

· Develop the ability to compile and present meaningful representations of data collected through the Laddering interview method to address research questions effectively.

Study materials

There is no textbook as such for this course; since most of the readings are taken from academic journals and conference proceedings. However, students are expected to read more widely including additional articles from any recognized journal in IS. Many useful citations can also be obtained from the AIS Digital Library, the ACM Digital Library, and other bibliographic databases such as ABI/Inform, Science Direct or the Emerald Library. Many of these libraries and databases are available online from the University of Jyväskylä Library at http://kirjasto.jyu.fi/ (usually you are required to login from outside of the university network). Additional citations and resources can be found, e.g., in the AIS website at http://www.aisnet.org/.
