Description
The aim of the thesis for advanced studies in statistics is to familiarize the author with a broader subfield of statistics. Some of the theses in statistics are done in cooperation with research institutes and companies.
Learning outcomes
After writing the thesis, the student is able to prepare structured presentations about broader statistical issues; can use language and notation carefully to present mathematics; and knows how to take into account the target audience when preparing mathematical presentations.

Opintojakson hyväksytty suoritus edellyttää, että opiskelija pystyy tuottamaan itsenäisesti laajan tieteellisen kirjallisen tutkielman laitoksen opinnäytteiden kirjoitusohjeen mukaisesti. Arviointikohteina ovat aiheen vaativuustaso, argumentoinnin täsmällisyys, tutkielman rakenne ja jäsentely, kirjallisuuden hyödyntäminen, tutkielman viimeistely, tekijän itsenäisyys ja aikataulussa pysyminen. Empiirisen tutkimuksen kohdalla arvioidaan lisäksi myös menetelmien valintaa ja käyttöä, sekä tulosten tarkastelua.
