Description
The purpose of the seminar is to advance the master’s thesis or the thesis of advanced studies. The seminar lasts for two semesters. Each student gives a presentation in both semesters and acts as an opponent. The seminar teaches how to write scientific text and how to present scientific results orally.
Learning outcomes
A student who has completed the seminar:
- can define a research problem and explain why it is important,
- can choose a right way to approach their research problem,
- can find a sufficient answer to their research problem,
- can report their work in writing and orally in such a way that another student at the same stage of studies is able to follow it,
- can comment on other students’ seminar papers,
- can write mathematical and other scientific text where the claims are justified,
- can use good Finnish/English in their written and oral expression,
- knows how to cite in scientific writing and can create a bibliography,
- is able to write their master’s thesis or the thesis of their advanced studies after the seminar.
Additional information
The seminar can be started in September or in January.
Description of prerequisites
Bachelor’s thesis approved. The supervisor and topic of the master’s thesis or the thesis of advanced studies have been chosen.

Hyväksytty suoritus edellyttää seminaaritöiden palauttamista, seminaariesitelmien pitämistä ja opponoimista sekä aktiivista osallistumista seminaareihin. Tarkemmat arviointiperusteet esitetään toteutuskohtaisesti.
