Description

Sampling methods are needed in the implementation of surveys. The course starts with classical sampling designs, such as simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified sampling, and cluster sampling. Later, we will explore the challenges of modern surveys and discuss, among other things,  data fusion (combining datasets), small area estimation, spatial sampling, and the design of questionnaires.

Learning outcomes

A student

  • can choose a suitable sampling method and implement the sampling,
  • can derive sampling weights for different sampling designs,
  • can estimate the variance of estimators in different sampling designs,
  • can combine other datasets with survey data,
  • can implement small area estimation,
  • knows the basics of designing questionnaires.

Additional information

The course is held every second year or less frequently.
