Description
The course gives an introduction to statistical modelling through applications from different fields of science. The course introduces generalized linear models (GLMs) in situations where the response is continuous (ordinary linear regression), dichotomous (logistic regression) or count data (Poisson regression). The course focuses on understanding the methods through simple applications. Instead of traditional lectures, the use of methods is practiced through R exercises.
Learning outcomes
A student who has successfully completed the course is able to:
- define the models presented in the course with assumptions,
- choose a model suitable for empirical data and justify the choice,
- fit the model with R software,
- interpret the results and assess the suitability of the fitted model,
- write a report on the statistical analysis.
Additional information
Degree students in statistics and data science take the 5 ECTS course. Students from other fields can take either 2 ECTS course or 5 ECTS course.
Please note that the 5 ECTS course gives students of other fields good preparation to complete the courses: Survival Analysis (TILS210) and Mixed Models and Analysis of Longitudinal Data (TILS2300).Description of prerequisites
Data analysis and visualization and From data to model or corresponding knowledge, basics of R software.
