TEKS4403 ICT Technology Strategy (5 cr)
Description
The theoretical themes of the course are industry dynamics of technological innovation, formulating and implementing technological innovation strategy. This creates an understanding on how new technology can support the company's goals and create value and competitive advantage in a changing business environment.
In their own studies, the students also familiarize themselves extensively with the development of novel technologies, such as machine learning, quantum computing, software architectures, cloud services and data analytics. In addition, students evaluate the effects of new technology on the market and develop strategies to promote utilization.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student can apply theoretical frameworks and use them to analyze topical technology development trends and evaluate opportunities for new software business. The student recognizes the context dependence of a single technology case and knows how to use models suitable for different situations. The student understands the characteristics of several emerging technologies in the IT industry and their influence to decision-making in the business development. The students can design technology strategy of a company.
The student knows how to synthesize research related to own topic, conduct small-scale own research study, prepare a scientific research report, and present its key findings to others in an understandable manner. The student can critically evaluate and give constructive feedback on research done by other students.
