STOA7005 Bachelor's Seminar and Thesis (10 cr)

Opiskelija laatii itsenäisen kandidaatintutkielman seminaarityöskentelyn tukemana. Seminaarissa ja samalla kandidaatintutkielmassa kehitetään kriittistä ja analyyttistä ajattelua, tiedonhankinnan ja -tuottamisen taitoja, vastuunotto- ja päätöksentekokykyä, ongelmanratkaisu- ja esiintymistaitoja. Seminaarin aikana harjoitellaan rakentavan palautteen antamisen ja vastaanottamisen taitoa sekä perehdytään tutkimuseettisiin periaatteisiin omaa tutkielmaa tehtäessä. 

Preparation of a candidate's thesis supported by seminar work. The seminar and the candidate's thesis will introduce students to the principles of research ethics, develop critical and analytical thinking, knowledge management skills, responsibility and decision-making, self-regulation and problem-solving skills, the ability to give, seek and receive constructive feedback, and reflect on the importance of research skills as work-life skills.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to carry out small-scale research and participate in scientific debate

and

· be familiar with the different stages of the research process and be able to schedule their own research process

· select and define a research topic on the basis of previous research and draw up a plan for carrying out the research

· obtain information from the main sources of information relevant to their research topic and critically evaluate the source material

· identify key research ethical principles and apply them in their own research process and assess the ethicality of research

· apply research methods relevant to their chosen discipline in answering research questions

· prepare a research report in accordance with the conventions of their discipline

· present their research, justify their choices and assess the reliability and relevance of their research findings

· constructively and critically evaluate the work of others

Suoritusajankohta aineopintojen loppupuolella. 

Kandidaatintutkielmalle tehdään plagiarismintarkastus ennen opinnäytteen valmistumista.

Sosiaalityön perusopintojen ja aineopintojen menetelmäjaksojen tulee olla suoritettuina joko ennen kandidaattiseminaaria tai suoritetaan samanaikaisesti.
