CONTENTS:
· different varieties of English
· research on and experiences of the role and influence of English in different countries, cultures and digital environments
· different ways in which English as an international language has been theorized, politicized and experienced
· language assessment and social sustainability
COMPETENCE:
· scientific thinking recognizing the way in which ways of being and thinking develop within particular spaces across time,
· pedagogical competence with regard to the intertwining of language and culture
· interactional and diversity-related with greater sensitivity to the sociopolitical implications of language use
· ethical considering the wider implications of teaching and studying a language for individuals and societies.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to:
· listen to and appreciate different varieties of English
· recognize the way in which English has developed over time and across different geographical and digital spaces
· be sensitive to the role of English as an international language in different contexts
· understand the aim of learning to communicate through and with languages
· recognise the connection between social sustainability and educational practice
