Description
This course explores the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the body’s role in music-related activities. Topics include the use of the body in music-making, dance, music education and music & health.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course student:
understands the theoretical foundations, methods and research goals of embodied music cognition
can critically evaluate research literature related to the topic and report it in English or Finnish.
is able to design and execute a group presentation on embodiment in music

Timing: 1st or 2nd year of study.

Participation in contact teaching. The assessment is based on how the student achieves the learning objectives of the course. Active participation (at least 80%) in teaching, assignments completed with approval, presentation of own research material.
