Description

This course explores the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the body’s role in music-related activities. Topics include the use of the body in music-making, dance, music education and music & health.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course student:

  • understands the theoretical foundations, methods and research goals of embodied music cognition

  • can critically evaluate research literature related to the topic and report it in English or Finnish.

  • is able to design and execute a group presentation on embodiment in music

Timing: 1st or 2nd year of study.

Evaluation criteria:
Participation in contact teaching. The assessment is based on how the student achieves the learning objectives of the course. Active participation (at least 80%) in teaching, assignments completed with approval, presentation of own research material.
