MATJ900 Doctoral Thesis (0 cr)

The student prepares a dissertation in the field of mathematics within the target period of four years. The dissertation should demonstrate a good knowledge of the discipline and an in-depth knowledge of one's own field of research. The dissertation must demonstrate the ability to apply independently and critically the scientific research methods in the field. The dissertation must be a logical, publicly available, scientific presentation of a mathematical problem and must be defended in public.

The dissertation is in the form of an article dissertation or a monograph. An article dissertation consists of scientific publications, which discuss the same set of problems, and a summary written by the doctoral student.

After completing the doctoral dissertation, the student is able to apply independently and critically and in accordance with research ethical principles the methods of scientific research and to create new scientific knowledge. He/she has an in-depth knowledge of his/her field of research and is able to evaluate scientific research and its significance in the field. Postgraduate students are able to produce scientific publications and reports and present research results in accordance with scientific practice.
