Description

The course expands knowledge of the basics of number theory based on Number Theory 1.

The course covers, for example,

  • Number-theoretic functions such as Euler's function, factor sum functions and Möbius' function
  • Representing whole numbers as the sum of two or more squares
  • Higher order Diophantus equations such as Fermat's and Pell's equations
  • Number theory of rational numbers such as Farey's sequence, Diophantus' approximation, Continued fractions
  • Riemann's zeta function
The exact content of the course may vary with different implementations.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student

  • knows the central questions of number theory
  • masters the number theory methods and techniques discussed in the course
