Description

Basics of abstract algebra: modular arithmetic, rings and fields, polynomial rings, divisibility of polynomials, ideals and quotient rings

Learning outcomes

After completing the course successfully the student

  • knows the basic properties of rings and fields and the most essential examples of them
  • knows how to compute and examine divisibility in residue class rings and polynomial rings
  • knows the concepts of ideal and factor ring
  • can tell the connections between divisibility of integers and the basic theory of rings
