Course content
· Cardiac, vascular, and metabolic disease; pathology and physical activity
· The role of physical activity in the prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases
· Acute and chronic effects of physical activity in persons with cardiovascular and/or metabolic disease
· Physical activity programming for persons with cardiovascular/metabolic disease
· Possible complications and harm from physical activity in persons with cardiovascular/metabolic disease
· Recent scientific literature on physical activity and cardiovascular/metabolic disease
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:
· describe pathophysiology of cardiac, vascular, and metabolic disease and their interaction with physical activity
· evaluate the effects of physical activity in the prevention of the above-mentioned diseases
· understand the acute and chronic effects of physical activity in persons with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases
· plan and implement physical activity/exercise programmes for persons with cardiac, vascular, and metabolic diseases
· account for, and prevent, possible harmful effects of physical activity in persons with the above-mentioned diseases
