Exercise Physiology intensive course workshop and conference

Description

Topics of the course: Energy availability, Physiology of REDs, Eating Disorders in athletes, and Weight management in athletes.

This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationship between energy intake and physiological function, focusing on the detrimental effects of low energy availability on various systems in the human body. We will examine the cascade of physiological adaptations and potential health consequences that result when the body experiences an energy deficit over prolonged periods of time. Also psychological and behavioral components are included.

Learning outcomes

Objectives:

- expand participants' knowledge and skills to recognize, assess and effectively treat low energy availability in both clinical and performance settings

- deepen understanding of the physiological intricacies of low energy availability

- get familiar with the objective measures of exercise physiology assessments with relevant to low energy availability

- peer learning, critical thinking and problem solving skills in case-based discussions to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life scenarios

- presenting a poster in front of an audience, which engage students with the articulate key points, respond to questions and adapt communication style to audience feedback

Study materials

The content and implementation of the workshop day, seminar day and virtual meeting will be developed in collaboration with faculty from the participating institutions.
