This study module looks at the dimensions of cultural sustainability through a cultural policy lens.

Learning outcomes

 After completing the study module, the student will:

  • Be able to identify different and often conflicting cultural and disciplinary perspectives on sustainability and recognize the relationship between cultural sustainability and cultural policy.

  • be able to critically assess different practical cases dedicated to improving cultural sustainability.

  • understand different cultural sustainability dimensions, needs and interests, e.g. contradictions between the sustainability of dominant cultures and minority cultures.

Contact teaching is the recommended way of taking part in the course.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
14 hours (7 x 2 h) of online or contact lectures and 6 hours (3 x 2 h) of contact seminars dedicated to group presentations. Students are expected to familiarise themselves with chosen articles and book chapters from the reading list provided by the teacher and to work in groups to prepare a presentation based on the readings. As a final assignment for the course, students will write an essay according to provided instructions. It is possible to replace contact teaching with a reading circle of provided course readings and a final assignment agreed with the teacher OR with an essay assignment agreed with the teacher.
Evaluation criteria:
EN: The grading scale in all completion modes will be numerical: 0-5. The grade will be based on the evaluation of the assignments that measure the extent to which the learning goals have been achieved. In modules organized in the form of contact teaching, completion requires 80% attendance.

Method 2

Description:
It is possible to replace contact teaching with a reading circle of provided course readings and a final assignment agreed with the teacher OR with an essay assignment agreed with the teacher.
