This study module looks at development research from ethnological perspectives.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module the student will

  • know what are the most challenging questions related to development faced by people living in poverty

  • be able to critically assess how power relations influence what is meant by development in different contexts

  • know how the knowledge gathered through ethnographic methods differs from other kinds of knowledge used in development research and

  • will be able to evaluate how ethnographic knowledge can be used in an applied manner to support the development of studied communities.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
Taught module: 80 % attendance requirement and completion of written assignments
Evaluation criteria:
The grading scale in all completion modes will be numerical: 0-5. The grade will be based on the evaluation of the assignments that measure the extent to which the learning goals have been achieved.   In modules organized in the form of contact teaching, completion requires 80% attendance.
