After completing the module, the student will have an understanding of ritual theory and its potential for the study of current anthropological phenomena.

Learning outcomes

EN: On completion of this module the student will

  • Know the classical theories of ritual and the concepts associated with these theories

  • Know the questions they can answer using these theories in anthropology and related disciplines

  • Be able to assess how ritual behaviour creates cultural and power structures in different cultures

EN: Independent work through a written assignement. Contact teaching may be organized in some years.

Completion methods

Method 1

Description:
For independent completion, the student should choose a) three books or b) two books and two journal theme numbers from the list.
Evaluation criteria:
The grading scale in all completion modes will be numerical: 0-5. The grade will be based on the evaluation of the assignments that measure the extent to which the learning goals have been achieved.   In modules organized in the form of contact teaching, completion requires 80% attendance.
