This study module examines the relationship between media and cultural memory in the digitalized era.

Learning outcomes

After completing the study module, the student will:

  • Have an advanced knowledge of memory studies theories and concepts and capacity to examine them from cultural studies and media studies perspectives

  • Learn to analyze meanings of objects, images, rituals, exhibitions, and memorials

  • Learn to critically assess how public memory is shaped by mediation and the transformation of media technologies

  • Learn to critically examine cultural memory from the perspective of social justice.

Description:
Taught study module.
Evaluation criteria:
The grading scale in all completion modes will be numerical: 0-5. The grade will be based on the evaluation of the assignments that measure the extent to which the learning goals have been achieved.   In modules organized in the form of contact teaching, completion requires 80 % attendance.   For independent learning, completion of the unit requires that written assignments are completed and approved by the instructor in charge.
