Why are financial markets so important or how are interest rates are determined? These questions, among others, will be tackled in the course.
Description
The lecture course helps students understand the role that financial markets, banks and money play in economic development. Financial intermediation, behavior of interest rates and financial regulation are examined.
The course supports the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:
- Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- explain the importance of financial markets in the economy
- recognize the definitions of monetary aggregates and the functions of money
- explain how interest rates are determined
- recognize the role of central banks, regulation and macroprudential policy in financial markets
