Description

The postgraduate seminar in cognitive science gives the doctoral student the skills to present, develop and discuss his/her own research with researchers in the field, and prepares the student for the doctoral defence.

The course aims to support the completion of postgraduate studies. The main part of the seminar will consist of peer review of short texts and/or visualisations of current research articles, conference presentations or dissertations by postgraduate students. In addition, each participant in turn will prepare and present a longer presentation on the methodological foundations of his/her own research. The seminar can also be used to practise your own conference presentations or other research-related presentations. As part of the seminar, students will follow other students' doctoral defences to gain an understanding of the process and content of the defence event. In addition, the seminar informs doctoral students about current issues related to their postgraduate studies.

Learning outcomes

The postgraduate seminar gives doctoral students the skills to present, develop and discuss their own research with researchers in the field, and prepares them for their doctoral defence. The seminar develops the student's ability to describe his/her research and its results orally, in writing, and graphically. In addition, the seminar will equip the student with the skills to methodologically position, reflect and analyse research on human-technology interaction from a cognitive science perspective.

Additional information

The course is completed by active participation in the monthly seminars and by attending at least three doctoral dissertation events. Students will bring their own texts and/or visualisations to the seminars for peer review and actively participate in the scientific discussions on the presentations of others. In addition, the student will give at least one longer presentation on the methodological foundations of his/her own research.
