KKES5002 Energy and Society (5 cr)
Description
The course provides a broad introduction to the socio-political aspects of energy. The course discusses why although we have reached a good level of technical know-how, the energy transition process is sluggish. The course will also address topics such as the geopolitics of energy, the essentials of energy law, the challenges of national and international energy policies, and energy democracy and citizenship.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students should be able to:
- understand the relationship between the energy sector and society and politics
- reflect on the necessity of an energy transition
- examine the social acceptance and citizen engagement in energy questions
- reflect on the importance of energy policy and energy security
- describe various instances of the critical issues concerning an energy transition
- present their knowledge in the field through the basic skills of scientific writing
