Description

Includes experimental/computational work and report. The topics are based on research carried out at the department or external topics, eg from industry. The purpose of the thesis is to demonstrate scientific familiarity with the topic of research, as appropriate, with the search for literature, the use and analysis of research material, and the preparation of independent scientific reports in accordance with department guidelines.

In the experimental laboratory work, students are expected to engage in independent work in the laboratory, applying appropriate measurement techniques. In the computational work, students must perform essential simulations relevant to the research questions using suitable computational software.

It takes about three months to complete the thesis.

In the Chemistry teacher education, the topic is related to the study of chemistry teaching and the research methods of teaching are utilized in the work.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the thesis, the student will master the subject area of the research and will be able to plan, implement and report in accordance with scientific practice in the field. The student is able to formulate a research problem, is able to obtain relevant information from publications in the field and critically evaluate its suitability for solving a research problem. The student masters the different stages of research, is able to choose the right research methods and apply them reasonably to the research topic. The student masters the chemical research methods of the chosen field, is able to use experimental measuring instruments of the chosen field and is able to analyze the research results and relate them to the existing knowledge.

In the Chemistry edication study, the student masters the typical teaching research methods.

Description of prerequisites

It is good to complete advanced studies in chemistry as much as possible before you start to do Thesis.
