Description

Overview of the industrial production of chemicals and the chemical industry. In the course, e.g. the importance of catalysts and recycling in the chemical industry are reviewed. The student gets to know the industrial production processes of chemicals, especially in the mining, fertilizer and petrochemical industries. The student masters the production processes, properties, composition and use of the most important industrially produced chemicals and chemical groups.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student has an overall picture of the chemical industry, especially in Finland, but also worldwide. The student has an understanding of the processes and the importance of recycling in industry. In addition, the student knows the main features of the production processes of the most significant branches of the chemical industry, as well as the manufacturing processes of industrial chemicals and groups of chemical

Work life goals

After completing the course, the student has an overall picture of the chemical industry and therefore preliminary capabilities to work for the industry. The student has an understanding of process industry and the importance of environmental regulations and recycling in processes.

Additional information

The course is lectured in 2024-2025 and 2026-2027. The course can be taken by book exam and other assignments in 2025-2026 and 2027-2028. Lectures are in English.
