Description

Integrated wood utilizing biorefineries (biproduct mills). Deep familiarizing on current and evolving integrated wood-based bioproduct mills. In these mills, feedstock can be utilized more profitably than conventionally. In addition to fibers, products from hemicelluloses and lignin will be isolated and refined. Different profitable methods for utilizing fibers will be considered diversely.

Learning outcomes

The chemicals produced in the biorefineries that process wood, often developing around sulfate pulp mills, and the products made from them replace current products based on fossil raw materials. After completing the course, the student knows the main chemical features of the entity in question and the integration aspects of bioproduct factories.

Work life goals

The student will be able to absorb a research topic related to biorefining quickly and prepare a poster and a presentation on the topic. The student learns to defend his own arguments and to examine the issues presented by others constructively and critically.

Additional information

The course is lectured in 2025-2026 and 2027-2028. The course can be taken by book exam and other assignments in 2024-2025 and 2026-2027. Lectures are in Finnish.
