Kurssilla opit hahmottamaan orgaanisten yhdisteiden rakenteita ja reaktiivisuutta.
Description
- Structures, bonds, and drawing of organic compounds.
- Stereochemistry, as well as factors affecting the spatial structure and reactivity of molecules.
- Concepts of conjugation, resonance, and aromaticity.
- Basics of naming organic compounds, assessment of chemical and physical properties. The most typical chemical reactions from the following compound groups: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, epoxides, and carboxylic acids.
- Oxidation and reduction reactions in organic chemistry.
Learning outcomes
A student who has successfully completed the course:
- Can draw and recognize organic compounds, understand the three-dimensionality of compounds (stereochemistry), and is familiar with types of isomerism.
- Can name simple organic compounds.
- Recognizes the most common functional groups and their basic reactions, and can assess the physical and chemical properties of compounds.
- Is able to apply learned knowledge in designing simple syntheses.
Work-life objectives:
- Scheduling and time management.
- The basics of scientific thinking.
- Gets acquainted with scientific text and terminology.
