You will observe the effect of energy on chemical equilibrium and kinetics, and have exercises in assessing the properties of substances.
Description
- Properties of solutions
- Reaction kinetics
- Chemical equilibrium
- Acids and bases, pH, and buffer solutions
- Enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs energy
- Electrochemical cells, cell potentials, and electrolysis
Learning outcomes
A student who has passed the course:
- Knows the concept of solubility and the factors affecting solubility, and knows how to calculate the concentrations of substances.
- Knows the colligative properties and can calculate changes in freezing and boiling points as well as osmotic pressures.
- Knows the rate laws and factors affecting rates of a chemical reactions and is able to determine the reaction order based on experimental observations.
- Can determine the equilibrium constant and equilibrium concentrations of the reaction, and is able to explain how the equilibrium can be influenced.
- Knows the concept of acid–base reactions and can interpret acid–base titration curves.
- Can represent the state of a chemical system using the laws of thermodynamics.
- Knows the principles of electrochemistry and is able to describe the function of different cells.
Working life skills:
- Data processing by computer technology.
- Trained in using a science book written in English.
- Trained in solving chemical problems.
Description of prerequisites
