This course extends your knowledge on classical thermodynamics, which helps you to explain and predict chemical transformations.
Description
- Gas laws
- Laws of thermodynamics
- Phase transformations of pure substances
- Properties of solutions
- Chemical potential
- Electrochemistry
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student
- can interpret physical processes with the concepts and machinery of classical thermodynamics,
- can apply the laws of thermochemistry to quantitatively assess the energetics of chemical systems,
- can evaluate the effect of reaction conditions on chemical equilibrium,
- can theoretically handle phase transformations and form phase diagrams,
- understands the connection between thermodynamics and electrochemistry,
- understands the differences between perfect and real gases as well as ideal and real mixtures.
Working life skills:
- The student is able to interpret chemical processes based on theory and evaluate their ecological and economical impact.
- The student understands the physical properties of chemicals.
