Practical laboratory work in analytical chemistry.

Description

Laboratory work covers fundamental analytical methods and the use of analytical instruments. The topics include:

  • gravimetry
  • potentiometry
  • titrimetry
  • spectroscopic methods (flame spectrophotometry, UV/Vis and atomic absorption spectrophotometry).

Learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student understands the theoretical premises associated with different methods of chemical analysis, as well as manages basic skills of analytical methods in chemistry. The student understand the significance of resource wisdom in practical laboratory work and knows the basics in safe disposal of chemical waste.

Working life skills

  • After passing the course, the student can: prepare samples and volumetric solutions; use volumetric dishes; make research plans; report results both orally and in written form; the student knows differences, limitations and possible interference effects between analytical methods.
  • Reporting: written reports, research plans, seminar presentations.
  • Interaction skills: independent working and small group working.
  • Presentation skills: group seminar presentation to all students of the course.
