In this course we will explore key themes in the history of modern Europe in a perspective that connects Europe with wider global history.

Learning outcomes
Having completed this course, a student will
- be familiar with key developments in the history of modern Europe and with their links to wider global history
- understand and be able to assess the interpretative nature of historical scholarship
- have developed their critical thinking abilities and their skills of analysis, writing and co-operation
- be able to read historical scholarship in different languages
- be familiar with approaches central to the historical study of this period
- be able to contextualise and analyse relevant primary sources
- have developed their ability to search for and to find research data, especially digitally, and to apply that data to their studies
Study materials
In all the modes of completion for this course, the study materials consist of primary sources and research literature, in English.

Method 1
Description:
Participation in teaching (+ written work and an examination)
Evaluation criteria:
Regardless of the mode of completion, a numerical grade on the scale of 0-5. The course grade will derive from the assessment of the required course tasks that measure the degree to which the intended learning outcomes have been reached. Completion of the course through participation in teaching requires participation in the lectures/seminars and the acceptable completion of the required course tasks. Independent completion of the course requires the acceptable completion of the required course tasks.
