Description

Research project is a supervised experimental or theoretical project work that also can take place outside University. Research project can be linked to Master’s thesis work and it can feature for example designing an experimental setup, programming or deriving demanding theoretical results for the thesis. It can also be a literature survey from the given topic. Research project topics can be requested from the staff of the Physics Department.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to

  • describe the physics and topical questiona related to the given research field
  • define and outline a feasible research project based on given assignment or problem
  • apply their skills and knowledge of physics to solve physics problems in practice
  • recognize the typical phases and tools of project management and apply them in practice
  • write a technical research report of the research project

Description of prerequisites

Student is expected to have completed the basic and intermediate studies in Physics as well as minor studies that are relevant for the given assignment.

Evaluation criteria:
Course assessment is based on the quality of the student's work (physics, methods, and tools), technical project report, and student's own project management (initiative, schedule, phases of the project, project management tools). In the technical project report, in addition to a concise reporting of research questions, methods, and main results, the student presents how the stages and tools of project management were visible or used during the work.
