Description

  • ROOT data-analysis packet

  • PYTHIA event generator

  • FastJet library

  • basic data-analysis methods in high-energy physics

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the students:

  • can use ROOT data-analysis object in their own analysis and utilize documentation on services that objects provide

  • can make simple Monte Carlo simulations

  • create proton-proton collisions with PYTHIA event generator

  • familiarized with FastJet library

  • understands meaning of various triggers in large particle experiments

  • used invariant mass method, build two-particle correlation functions and reconstructed jets

  • understands in qualitative level single particle corrections arising from imperfections of the real measurement devises

Description of prerequisites

  • Bachelor level quantum mechanics and foundations of special relativity

  • Recommended: particle physics

  • Programming experience with some object oriented language (course uses C++)

Study materials

  • Lectures and lecture material in www

  • Documentation of ROOT, FastJet and PYTHIA
